Tree Assessments & Science-Based Care

We ask a lot of our urban trees here in Asheville. That's why every assessment with Smart Feller Tree Works starts with the understanding that we consider all recommendations as actions towards preservation. This means we take a close look at your trees for signals of stress, including improper pruning, fungal and bacterial infections, die-back, and other issues. We collaborate with you about the services we offer, below.

Tree Care Services

  • Proper Pruning

    Pruning a tree properly means cutting in the right place, at the right time of year, for the right reason. We discuss what your goals are, and how they affect the tree, before making any cuts. We do not wear climbing spikes for pruning work. We do not paint over branch cuts, or make cuts between branch unions (otherwise known as topping).

  • Cabling & Bracing

    For weak or compromised branch junctures, we can combine proper pruning with cabling systems and/or brace rods to help maintain your tree’s structure, integrity, and overall health. We advise on the benefit of materials used and check-ups.

  • The Tree + You Relationship

    We offer long-term care and check-ins to sustain the life of your trees in our urban forest system! Removals are also part of our services; learn more here.

    In cooperation with our friends at Preservation Arborists, we may recommend transplanting or soil work.

Fetching bee swarms at height, installing a bat box, rescuing stranded cats, hanging and maintaining a safe rope swing – we’re here to answer your questions about all tree-related challenges & dreams.
