Smart Feller Tree Works was founded by Ira Friedrichs in October 2010. With just a chainsaw, a small trailer, and a keen attitude towards top-level customer service, Ira laid the foundation for Smart Feller’s reputation as one of the best tree services in Asheville, North Carolina. In 2013, Chardin Detrich officially became a part of SFTW. Together, Ira and Chardin created a company based on environmental stewardship, the highest level of safety, and skill learning, becoming a tree industry leader. In 2023, Chardin moved on to found Preservation Arborists, focusing on soil work, planting, and transplanting trees. The two companies collaborate with the friends below as science-based tree care services become the most ethical option to sustain our urban forest.
